Do You Know the Origin of the Women’s Day?

Since the beginning of time, men and women have worked together to make the world a better place. Both men and women have showed great acts of courage, have helped their communities, have created beautiful art, and have promoted peace in the world. Unfortunately, most history books mainly celebrate the achievements of men. International Women’s Day is a time to also recognize the contributions of women in history and today.

International Women’s Day is a day for celebrating the social, economical, and political achievements of women all over the world. It began in the 1900’s when women started being vocal about creating equal rights. We celebrate this day by reflecting on how far women have come around the world.

The purpose of this day is to recognize the women that have:

Made discoveries and advances in science, math, and technology
    Promoted peace in the world
    Protected the environment
    Helped people in their communities
    Created beautiful works of art
Risen to positions of leadership in politics and business
Advocated for women’s rights, including the rights to vote, receive an education, live free from discrimination, and be paid fairly for their work.

Students in the International program took the time today to reflect on their favorite female hero that makes the world a better place.

They read up on strong women found in history and made cards to show their gratitude.

Today is the Women's Day,

Shuren wishes all of our

Mothers, daughters, teachers, leaders and heroines

a beautiful, healthy and happy holiday!
